A little known Anchorge jem.

It's funny how well Mexican fast food and veganism go hand-in-hand. Today's blog post is about a little known hole in the wall restaurant. Actually, they have two locations, so I guess I could call them a 'chain'.

You wouldn't think to look for vegan-friendly fare within a Chevron gas station! But that's exactly where the locally-owned Burrito Factory stores are found. On the west side, it's the Minnesota and Spenard station. East: Bonniface and Northern Lights.

As far as I can tell, they cook everything from scratch. No over-salted refried beans from a squeeze-bag here! And for an up charge, they offer whole wheat tortillas.

What to order: The 'Vegetarian Burrito' (duh!). And as you vegans will know, that'll get you most of the way there. Remember to hold the cheese and sour cream and guac (contains sour cream). You can choose between black or pinto beans (my pic: black - just remember to grab a toothpick), they add Spanish rice, lettuce, tomato, and salsa (choose your temp). The east-side location seems to source their lettuce from a different wholesaler because it always seems to be nice deep leafy green romaine. If you're ordering from the east side, ask for extra lettuce.

Another tip for Burrito Factory: They have quite a following of regulars and can get busy. Phone-in your order to save time. And don't forget to ask for a punch card. Buy 12, get one free!
